Grocery List

Shop the outside aisles of your grocery store as much as possible. This is where the fresh fruits, vegetables, non-processed foods, etc. are located.

Try to ensure that the majority of your diet consists of food that will rot fairly quickly. Just eat them before they do so! You have to wonder about the health benefits of a pre-packaged cupcake that is still fresh one or two years later! Your children’s eating choices directly reflect your own for the most part. It is important to instill healthy eating habits at an early age, to ensure long-term health.

Watch out for things that say “low fat.” This isn’t always good. It usually means that it is very high in sugar. Sugar is a culprit you want to stay away from. Sugar will cause weight gain and it doesn’t feed your cells. Fat is not all bad. You need the “good fats” to maintain good health.

How to buy oils: Buy the cold processed oils or the expeller pressed oils. These have not been heated. Oils that have been heated for more than 15 minutes become rancid. This can cause free radicals in the body. Also look for non-hydrogenated fats. You want to avoid hydrogenated fats in your diet.

Excellent Resource for healthy menus is at www.savingdinner.com For a nominal fee, you are sent health meal plans for 7 days at a time. It come each week and if for people who are busy and don’t have a lot of time to cook. Includes a grocery list for each menu!
